Save Our Kepz Rebuilding Appeal
To Enhance our Shelter

In February 2020 a group of volunteers took over running an animal shelter from 2 elderly ladies. The conditions they found shocked them. Over 120 dogs living in poor conditions and no funding for anything.

Located on the Greek holiday Island of Corfu the shelter was overrun with rats, and completely overgrown. The Volunteer group set up a Greek registered non profit Charity known as The Corfiot Union for Rescuing Animals or KEPZ for short. I am doing this appeal on their behalf. All proceeds will go to rebuilding the KEPZ shelter.

Through sheer hard work the dedicated volunteers started to improve conditions in the shelter for the dogs living there. I got involved when an appeal went out on Facebook for food for the dogs. They were down to their last few bags of dry food! So with the help and donations of generous people and other charities we have been able to feed the dogs since then.

But the conditions at the shelter are still very poor:

• The roofs are made from asbestos and a health risk to volunteers and dogs alike

• The floors are made of earth, so it’s impossible to keep the dogs clean, or clean up their urine

• The boundary fences are rusted and have holes in them, so dogs escape and annoy neighbours

• The wire fences around the runs are collapsing

• The enclosures for the dogs are very hot in the summer so they get no respite from the heat

• The enclosures for the dogs let in rain and so the dogs get filthy and wet in the winter

• There is no treatment facility for the vet to treat the dogs

• No secure place to store food to keep rodents out

• There is no proper place to dispose of faeces

• New electric wiring is required as the existing situation is unsafe

• Recently there has been flooding which has made conditions worse for the dogs and volunteers

Obviously something needs to be done to sort this out. But how? I am trying to raise £60,000 for the rebuilding work to be done. A huge target I know but with a good will this could be achieved. My logic being that with hundreds of thousands of visitors arriving in Corfu every year, if only 6,000 of those buy one brick for £10 then we will quickly reach our target.

Obviously with larger donations we will be able to make more improvements. Each brick paid for will represent the love of the donor for these poor dogs, and will make a difference. So I have worked with KEPZ to set up this appeal. Please buy as many bricks as you can afford, to improve the lives of the dogs that live there. Thank you for reading this and for caring.
